Let's chat about something that's been on my mind lately – ADHD. Yeah, you heard that right. I'm diving headfirst into the world of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and let me tell you, it's been a fun (interesting) little journey!
Now, I always knew ADHD was a thing, but never did I think it would be *my* thing until I got diagnosed last year. Weird, right? Growing up, I'd always heard that ADHD was mostly a boy thing – you know, hyperactive kids bouncing off the walls and running around the classroom and all that jazz. And coming from a supportive family who believed in fixing our own problems, I never really gave it much thought.
But here's the kicker – turns out, ADHD doesn't care if you're a girl or a boy. It just does its thing, wreaking havoc on your brain and leaving you to pick up the pieces. Add in a sprinkle of anxiety – my trusty sidekick since forever – and you've got yourself a real party. 🎉 Woooooop
I used to blame everything on my anxiety. Feeling exhausted after a day at work? Must be the anxiety. Needing to just chill and do nothing on a wild Friday night? Definitely the anxiety. But then one day, I had a lightbulb moment. Maybe, just maybe, there was more to it than meets the eye.
Cue the lovely doctor who suggested I get tested for ADHD and autism. And you know what? She was onto something. Fast forward to October 2023, and boom – there it was, a shiny new diagnosis of Combined type ADHD. Suddenly, all those quirks and struggles started to make sense. It was like finding the missing piece of a puzzle I didn't even know I was solving.
And let me tell you, friends, discovering I wasn't alone in this journey was a game-changer. I dove into books like "Unmasked" by Ellie Middleton (seriously, go read it), and suddenly, I felt seen. Turns out, there's a whole army of women out there who've been through the same stuff and come out the other side stronger than ever.
So here's the deal – mental health is different for each of us. We've all got our battles to fight, our mountains to climb. But guess what? There's always someone to talk to, always a hand to hold. You're never alone in this crazy adventure called life. 💖
Now, let's talk about Mental Health Awareness Week. This year's theme is "Movement: Moving more for our mental health." And let me tell you, I'm all about that action, boss! I'm a sucker for a good challenge, a little friendly competition (Im actually so competitive), and – let's be real – I love me a little reward. That's why I've been getting my steps in with the Conqueror challenge. A little jog on the treadmill, a stroll in the park – it's all good for the soul. Plus, who can say no to a cool-as-heck medal at the finish line? 🏅
So yeah, that's my story – messy, complicated, and oh-so-beautifully human. Here's to embracing the journey, celebrating the wins, and never backing down from a challenge. We've got this, pals! 💪✨
