The Rise of AI in the Creative World: Is It a Game Changer or a Shortcut?

Right, I’ve been thinking about something that’s been doing my head in lately, and I reckon it’s time to talk about it. AI. Specifically, AI in creative industries—art, design, marketing, you name it. It’s everywhere right now, and I’m seeing more and more people jumping on it. But... is it really a good thing? Or are we taking shortcuts where we shouldn’t?
Let’s have a little chat about it.
So, we’ve all seen the apps—AI-generated art, logos, even content writing. It’s all dead easy, isn’t it? Just press a button, add a little context and boom, there’s your shiny new design or catchy caption.
But here’s where it gets interesting: what if you’re not a creative person? Like, what if you’ve got your own small business and you need a quick illustration for a post or a logo for your brand, but there’s no way you can afford to pay an artist. Is it fair to turn to AI for that? Or does that undermine all the talent, skill, and graft that goes into actual human creativity?
I’ll be honest, I’m torn. On the one hand, I get it. Money’s tight, especially when you’re running a small business, you may not be the most creative person and not everyone has the budget to hire a designer or artist. So, AI seems like a quick fix—cheaper, faster, less hassle. But here’s where it gets murky for me... are we losing the human touch?
There’s something quite special about working with a creative person. You get their years of experience, their passion, their unique vision that AI just... well, doesn’t have. It’s like comparing a home-cooked meal to a microwave ready meal. Sure, they both fill you up, but one’s got soul and love poured into it.
But then I’m like, what about people who genuinely can’t afford to pay for that creativity? Do we say, "Nah, tough luck?" Or do we accept AI as a tool for them to get by? Would I be fuming if someone couldn’t pay me and went to AI instead? I’m not sure I would be. But maybe some people would be, and that’s fair enough.
So, I want to know—what do you lot reckon? Is AI okay for the non-creatives who need a bit of help? Or are we taking away from the people who do this for a living? Would you feel the same about AI-generated art, for example, as you would about a real artist’s work?
It’s proper deep, this one. The line between using AI as a tool and totally bypassing the need for actual creatives is getting blurrier. And as much as I love a bit of new tech, I can’t help but wonder where we’re headed.
Let me know what you think—this one’s got me all over the place, and I’d love to hear where you stand. 💭
